From Sydney to Boston: Finding Purpose and Growth

My journey with Schneider Electric wasn’t some grand plan. It began when a friend convinced me to apply for a job that matched my marketing degree. Taking that chance was one of the best decisions I ever made.

Embracing growth

When I was younger, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to be. My parents taught me to reach for the stars, but those stars ranged from being a marine biologist to a forensic scientist. In my heart, I knew I wanted to help people. But how? When I finished my marketing degree, I landed a corporate gig that mixed e-commerce and customer service – not exactly what I pictured. It was an interesting entrance into the working world, and helped rebuild my bank account, but something was missing.

Along came an opportunity with Schneider, in 2018, starting with a role as partner program coordinator. This meshed me with local sales teams and partners, and had me running events — a real eye-opener. After a year and a half, I was encouraged to make a lateral move. I applied internally for a role as social media specialist within the Marketing team. Here, I was able to understand more of the business, network with local and global teams, and apply what I had learnt in university.

A culture of learning and development

What makes Schneider Electric stand out is how they’ve got your back in growing your career. Take our Open Talent Market – it’s not just an internal job board; it’s like a personal career development genie! It uses artificial intelligence to match your skills and future ambition to various full-time roles, part-time projects, and even mentoring opportunities.

Here, employees aren’t just a cog in the machine; they’re individuals on a career path, and the company recognizes and nurtures this. Career check-ins are actively encouraged. And it’s not a routine chat, but a real talk about where you want to go, what you’re good at, and anything that might be holding you back.

They also foster a culture of ongoing performance discussion. Not just an annual review that feels like a box-ticking exercise, but a continual conversation. You’re part of a team that wants you to shine and grow, and they’ll let you know when you’re killing it or help out when you need a boost.

Schneider knows the job landscape is always changing, so they’re big on learning every day – it’s a core value! Workshops, training – you name it, they’ve got it. The opportunity to upskill and reskill are always available, as Schneider makes sure their employees are ahead of the curve.

Global connections

Fast forward to today and I’m an employer branding content specialist within our global HR team. This role applies my hard-won skills toward helping people! Every day I help others discover what it means to work at one of the most inclusive and caring companies in the world. I’m able to work with teams across the globe, from all parts of the company.

In taking this opportunity, I was also able to move abroad! Schneider has helped my family and me move from Sydney, Australia, to Boston, USA, and they’ve supported us every step of the way.

My career has taken me on a journey I’d never thought I’d be on

I’ve been able to take risks and embrace change with so much support. No matter if you’re a student, graduate, early in your career (like I was), mid-senior professional, or an executive, Schneider has a place for you.

So, if you’re looking to join a company that has a real purpose and helps you to be your best, dive in. Who knows? Your next big career move might just be waiting for you here.
