Daniel Garrido, general manager and building commercial director in Ecuador was the mentor for the winning team of Schneider Go Green 2020. Angie and Jorge of Team Groon worked with Daniel to ensure their project was aligned with the competition guidelines and they had the resources and mentorship they needed to perform their best on the day of the global finals.
Being part of the Schneider Go Green 2020 competition as a mentor has been one of the most wonderful experiences of my life, which fills me with honor, and pride. The technology and efficiency as the axis of a social initiative, generate a high impact on the community and rebuild neuralgic issues in the development of any economy. In the case of the last years edition, the community of Bojayá, in Chocó Colombia, a fighter and dreaming community, with great cultural richness and ancestral fishing trade.
Together with Angie and Jorge, we built a great team, which together with other teams both at the National University of Medellin, as well as within Schneider Electric, supported us to achieve this dream and finally consolidate a bold idea, friendly to the environment and completely sustainable, as well to be an initiative replicable in others regions of the world in order to demonstrate that access to energy in a sustainable way is possible.
Beyond just reliable access to renewable energy, Groon creates a positive sustainable impact on the local fishing industry by reducing its CO2 emissions by 4.3 tons and preserving the area’s cultural traditions.
