As many of you know, the month of June is known as Pride Month all around the world. This past weekend Schneider Electric celebrated the LGBT culture at OC Pride as a Silver Sponsor. Not only was the event a fun filled and family friendly experience but it was a symbol of acceptance and equality for all, no matter what our differences.
The event started with a group of Schneider employees marching down the streets of Santa Ana with Pride and Schneider Flags. It was amazing to see us come together in support of a human rights cause such as this. After the trek was over we ended up at our booth, where we handed out Schneider schwag and started talking to Pride attendees about Schneider Electric and how we want to make sure we provide a working environment conducive and open to anyone regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
This event was spearheaded by Schneider’s Costa Mesa, California office, which recently started a SchOUT (Schneider Out) Business Resource Group (BRG) – this is Schneider’s first ever LGBT BRG but certainly not the last.
SchOUT is an employee network that promotes the diversity and inclusion of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) employees and their allies in Schneider Electric. Our goals are to attract, promote, and retain LGBT employees in Schneider Electric, with a focus on networking, professional development, community involvement and business outreach.
Feelings of pride were definitely in the air while we marched. I, along with David and Kaylee (the SchOUT leadership team) had been working on this event for quite some time. To see our labor finally paying off was the icing on top of a cake we were baking for quite some time. Throughout the year we had been organizing TedxTalks, Lunch & Learns, and LGBT speakers to educate our office in LGBT related matters. OC Pride was the big ticket project and it went over extremely well!
Thank you to all who accept and affirm one another regardless of one another’s differences. I also wanted to give an enormous SchOUT to David Clark and Kaylee Burns!
We organized and executed a meaningful and historical event for Schneider Electric. At Schneider Electric we believe in affirming diversity and see it as a crucial factor leading to new and innovative ideas.
