How does the home charger ensure safety?
Why have an EVlink charging station fitted in your garage or carport? You may ask, why not , for example, use my washing machine socket instead. We’ve all thought about it. It’s time we thought again. Why?
Well, because charging an electric vehicle (EV) is no small matter. For one thing, it needs high power at a high frequency for hours at a time. To give you an idea – charging an EV is like turning your oven up to its maximum and leaving it regularly on for hours.
The best – and the safest – way to charge your vehicle is a dedicated charge station with its own socket outlet. There’s no danger for you, your vehicle, your electrical installation, or for any connected devices.
Make sure the terminal complies with current standards. The charging mode should be Mode 3 set out in standard IEC/EN 61851. And the socket should conform to IEC 62196.
Don’t blow a fuse!
Don’t install your charger yourself. Have it mounted by a professional electrician. Use this opportunity to have your home’s electrical system assessed to ensure its suitable for a charging station. Just as there is a dedicated electrical circuit for your cooker, for example, an electrician will also fit a dedicated circuit and its relevant protection for the charger in your electrical distribution board.
Choosing the right moment… to reduce charging time that is
With the right charger it only takes you a few hours to charge your vehicle. You don’t have to leave it all night long in the garage without being able to drive it.
