Upstream and upward: My growth as a Supply Chain Planner

Five years ago, I packed up my life with a suitcase full of hopes. I didn’t know exactly what I would find, but I knew what I was searching for a place where I could grow professionally and personally, where I didn’t have to choose between being a supply chain professional and being myself. A few years later, two years ago now, that place turned out to be Schneider Electric

What I do and why it matters

My first days were filled with all the usual new-job jitters. New systems, new processes, new faces. But from day one, I also felt something rare: belonging. Schneider didn’t just talk about inclusion—they lived it. As I walked into our facility for the first time, I could tell it was somewhere I could see myself long-term.

As an ETO Supply Chain Upstream Planner, my job is all about navigating complex situations, managing materials, coordinating flow material execution, and making sure things get where they need to go, on time, and efficiently. Successful execution requires quick thinking, clear communication, and a lot of flexibility. And honestly, I love it!

My role is crucial in optimizing our operations and advancing our sustainability goals. I focus on the initial stages of our supply chain, directly influencing reduced lead times by ensuring timely material availability, which in turn minimizes production delays and optimizes inventory. A key part of my work involves close collaboration with our suppliers. We actively explore and implement more sustainable shipping methods, such as optimizing more sustainable routes when feasible. I also contribute efforts to reduce waste in packaging by working with suppliers on reusable solutions or more material-efficient methods. This proactive and data-driven approach not only enhances our supply chain’s efficiency and resilience but also significantly lowers our environmental footprint, directly supporting Schneider Electric’s commitment to a more sustainable future.

But beyond the spreadsheets and shipping routes, I find meaning in knowing that what we do at Schneider matters. We’re helping to build a more sustainable and efficient world. And we’re doing it with people who believe inclusion is just as important as innovation.

The power of showing up

If you had met me early in my career, you might not have recognized me. I was quieter then. More hesitant. I worried about not being accepted or saying the wrong thing. It took time for me to realize that I could speak up and be myself and to not be scared of being authentic at Schneider Electric.

And now, as a member of the local plant Pride Committee and the Inclusion and Care Team , I get to help create that same feeling for others. Whether it’s mentoring new hires, organizing Pride events, educating and celebrating diverse cultures, or simply being a friendly face, I’m committed to paying forward the acceptance I’ve received.

A Pride that’s personal

Pride Month is about celebration, but it’s also about reflection. I think about the people who paved the way so that I could live and work authentically. I think about younger versions of myself who were scared to be seen. And I think about the kind of workplace I want to help build, one where no one has to hide

Advice for the next generation

If you’re just starting your career, or starting over, here’s what I’ve learned:

  • Be bold. Be kind. Be you.
  • Don’t wait to be “ready.” Growth happens in the doing.
  • Rather than being an echo, be a voice.
  • Find a company that matches your energy and your values.

To anyone wondering if they can be their authentic selves in their career: you can. And not just survive, but thrive. Pride doesn’t end in June. At Schneider, it shows up every day, in our policies, our people, and the way we work together.
