Hi, I am Divya, a final year electrical engineering student studying in Universiti Malaya. During my time with Schneider Electric, I was part of the Regional Application Centre, Asia Pacific team as a Regional Tender Engineer Intern.
From discovering Schneider Electric to winning Go Green
My journey with Schneider Electric began unexpectedly. As the Head of Industrial Relations in the Malaya Electrical Engineering Student’s Association, I was tasked with inviting companies to our university’s career day. During my research, I stumbled upon Schneider Electric. The company’s portfolio immediately caught my attention, particularly their focus on power systems and the wealth of opportunities they offered to students.
Little did I know that this discovery would lead to a transformative experience. Soon after, I learnt about Schneider Go Green, a global student competition challenging student to reshape a smarter and more sustainable future for our cities, buildings, and homes. Intrigued by the chance to apply my knowledge to real-world sustainability challenges, I decided to participate with my friends.
The competition was eye-opening. It provided a platform where I could truly hear myself think out loud, fostering an environment of creativity and innovation. Despite the competitive nature of the event, the event organizers, mentors, and overall “vibes” at Schneider Electric made me feel at ease. Our mentors were incredibly supportive, constantly challenging us to think bolder while providing guidance along the way.
To our surprise, my team and I emerged as the first runner-up. As I wrapped my Schneider Go Green journey, I knew in my heart that I wanted to return to Schneider Electric for an internship.

My experience as a regional tender engineer intern
My previous extracurricular activities at university had focused on project management and sales, sparking my interest in roles that combined both commercial and technical aspects. Thankfully, I was matched with an opportunity that perfectly aligned with my aspirations: a Regional Tender Engineer Intern position.
My internship experience was genuinely outstanding and valuable. My buddy at Schneider, Sanil, the Asia Pacific Regional Application Centre Tender Manager created a structured plan that outlined my learning journey for the entire three-month internship. The first month involved a deep dive into Schneider Electric’s various business units. In the second month, I delved into the tender process, analyzing Request for Quotations (RFQs) and offers. The third month focused on commercial aspects, particularly contracts and Terms & Conditions (T&Cs).
Throughout this journey, the support I received from the Regional Application Centre Asia-Pacific team was incredible. They created an environment where no question was considered “bad,” encouraging my curiosity and allowing me to think out loud freely. Team members even arranged separate meetings to help me when I felt lost. During the internship, the Regional Application Centre tendering team, comprising Raja, Karthik, Syakirin, Sanil, and Abishek greatly facilitated my learning journey and consistently motivated me to explore and learn. This supportive atmosphere made a significant difference in my learning experience.

Life at Schneider: During and after work
From day one, I was enveloped in a welcoming atmosphere. The support from team members and Schneider Graduate Program Associates helped me navigate my first corporate experience with much ease. This experience provided valuable insights into corporate life, easing my transition from academia to the professional world.

Schneider Electric also emphasizes work-life balance. With flexible working hours and hybrid working arrangements, I could maintain a healthy lifestyle outside of work.
The company’s SEtainment program is a perfect example of their commitment to work-life balance. Weekly boxing and Pilates sessions with professional instructors (complete with boxing gloves provided!) and regular badminton games with staff members kept us active and energized. These activities not only promoted physical well-being but also fostered camaraderie among colleagues.
Also, us interns took the initiative to organize weekend outings, from cafe hopping to hiking adventures. These activities helped us bond and explore our surroundings together, creating lasting friendships beyond the workplace.

With flexible working hours, the option to work from home, and a culture that values both professional growth and personal enjoyment, Schneider Electric created an environment where I could thrive both in and out of the office.
Reflection on the journey
As I look back on my internship, I’m amazed at how much I’ve grown. My communication and presentation skills have improved significantly. I’ve gained a deeper understanding of power systems, secure power, power products, and digital energy. I’ve honed my skills in technical specifications analysis and tendering processes.
This internship has had a profound impact on my academic and career goals. It has provided me with a clearer career path and helped me step outside my comfort zone. I’ve been able to work on my weaknesses in a safe, supportive environment.
Schneider Electric has proven to be an exceptional employer for students and graduates. The company offers a great opportunity to explore and develop oneself in a nurturing space. I’ve grown immensely, learned a lot about myself, and met many wonderful people who have become great mentors and friends.
In conclusion, this journey has been transformative. It’s allowed me to think out loud, push my boundaries, and discover my potential in ways I never imagined. Also, I am beyond thankful I’ve made great friends who I’ll keep long after we I’ve ended my internship here.
