Supply chain management is a dynamic and ever-evolving field that plays a crucial role in today’s global economy. Each day presents new challenges and opportunities, pushing us to enhance processes, minimize disruptions, and ultimately make a global impact. The field requires a balance of problem-solving, innovation, and teamwork, making it an engaging and vital area of focus.
During my internship with Schneider Electric, I had the opportunity to dive deep into the intricacies of supply chains. I was able to witness firsthand how they drive innovation while addressing real-world challenges. Join me as I share the lessons learned and the passion that drives me every day.
Igniting my passion at Lipscomb University
When I embarked on my academic journey at Lipscomb University, I discovered a clear path for my passion. The Supply Chain and Operations Management program at Lipscomb has equipped me with the essential tools to grasp the intricacies of global supply chains. From logistics and inventory management to strategic planning and sustainability, the curriculum has taught me how supply chain professionals tackle real-world problems and foster innovation.
I wanted to enhance my college experience by pursuing an internship. I was looking for a hands-on experience to both deepen my understanding of supply chain and equip me with practical skills such as problem solving, data analysis, and relationship building, which are invaluable to my professional development.
Gaining practical experience at Schneider Electric
As I began my senior year, I was eager to gain a broader understanding of supply chain management. I knew that an internship would greatly benefit my career and academic growth, so I began searching for the best opportunity to acquire world-class knowledge.
This past fall, I had the incredible opportunity to intern at Schneider Electric, a global leader in sustainability, energy, and automation. I discovered Schneider Electric through an external network (LinkedIn). I was impressed by their leadership in innovation and their commitment to continuous growth as an organization. As I learned more about the company, I believed it would be a great fit for me. I took a leap of faith and applied to an Upstream Planning Internship, and I was excited to be offered the role.
My role was centered on upstream planning, which involves managing the flow of materials at the preliminary stages of the supply chain. Working alongside top talent at such a renowned company was truly inspiring, especially at this early stage of my career. During my internship, I contributed to projects aimed at enhancing data accuracy, optimizing supplier relationships, and effectively allocating materials.
The most striking aspect of my internship was the realization of how vital upstream planning is to the overall success of the supply chain. Witnessing the dedication and hard work of the team gave me a profound appreciation for the strategic thinking and meticulous planning involved. My manager and the team were incredibly supportive, and I gained invaluable knowledge from their expertise and collaboration. Their commitment to excellence motivated me to tackle challenges with the same level of drive, determination, and persistence.
A great sense of community
As an intern, it can be intimidating to work with seasoned industry veterans who possess years of expertise. However, my time at Schneider Electric provided numerous opportunities to connect and network with these professionals. “Lunch and Learn” events were instrumental in this regard. These events were either led or attended by members of the leadership team who were always willing to share their knowledge and insights, benefiting me both professionally and personally. These events were hosted by various business units within Schneider Electric. They were easy to sign up for and open to anyone that wanted to attend. The best part was lunch was always provided.
My internship was great, as I had the flexibility to work both remotely and in the Nashville Hub. Schneider Electric’s remote work policy encourages a healthy work-life balance, allowing employees to choose the environment that best suits their productivity. Personally, I found myself spending many days at the Hub because the atmosphere was incredibly inviting and welcoming. The sense of community is great. Everyone is so dedicated to their work, which pushed me to work even harder on my projects. Most importantly, there was always someone available to help, whether I had a specific question or just needed guidance on a general topic. This collaborative spirit truly made my internship rewarding and enriching.
The allure of supply chain management
What captivates me most about supply chain management is its ever-changing nature. Each day brings new challenges and opportunities to enhance processes, address issues, and make a significant impact on a global scale. My internship experience with upstream planning reinforced my conviction that this is the ideal career for me. I thrive on the balance of problem-solving, innovation, and teamwork that supply chain management demands.
As I prepare to graduate, I eagerly anticipate continuing my career with Schneider Electric. I am deeply grateful for the experiences that have shaped my understanding of the field. Supply chain management is not just a career for me; it is a passion that keeps me enthusiastic about the future.
