My Story As a Spark Scholarship Recipient

This audio was created using Microsoft Azure Speech Services

Hi everyone! I am Zahrah Ayu Afifah Febriani. I am a Spark Scholarship Program awardee from the Electrical Engineering, Informatics, and System Information department of Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology in Surabaya, Indonesia. In June 2018, I, along with three other classmates had the opportunity to participate in Schneider Electric’s internship program out of their manufacturing plant in Batam, Indonesia.

Igniting meaningful possibilities

The Spark Scholarship Program allowed my classmates and me to serve as a part of the Schneider Electric Batam team, igniting new possibilities by taking part in the digital transformation of energy management and automation to lead the Industry 4.0!

I always considered myself someone who preferred to work behind the scenes. I think logically and write code, yet always remain open to taking on new challenges. My first day with Schneider Electric marked the start of a new journey.  “Life is On” is more than a representation of the culture within Schneider. This tagline is a direct reflection of my life as an intern in the Batam plant. There is always an opportunity to contribute, learn, and shine everywhere, for everyone, at every moment. Just prepare yourself to give your best performance and be a part of the digital transformation journey.

Leading innovative projects

It never crossed my mind that I would become a project leader during this internship.

As a project leader, it is my responsibility to analyze the lifespan of this project, have ongoing discussions with the stakeholders involved, and successfully deliver the project from start to finish. Two of the current projects that have been the most meaningful to my career development are:

  • Creating new applications. Ideally there will be one application for scheduling and one for a paperless application form for both the production department and visitor management.
  • Conducting a drone study for automatic cycle count at our warehouse. The current cycle count process in our warehouse is done by manually scanning all the barcodes. We need to use a drone to do that, for the sake of human safety, on-time delivery, and improvement on-cycle count accuracy. I am now trying to find the best drone scanning type that meets all our warehouse requirements and hope it will be implemented soon.

Growing as part of an inclusive and diverse team

As part of the Digital Transformation team, I am so excited to have joined such a diverse and inclusive team. We are involved in forward-looking projects related to technology and innovation.

Although every day looks different and challenges do present themselves, there is always an opportunity to learn new things. I feel valued and empowered because Schneider Electric Indonesia gave me the privilege to manage large-scale projects. My cultural horizons have expanded as I have met people from all walks of life and different backgrounds. My experience as the Spark Scholarship recipient has changed the way I approach life. I have learned that being out of my comfort zone is the best way to explore new pathways and see how far I can go. The lessons I have learned are priceless and for me, Life is On!
