Major shifts occurring in the world are set to lead to a substantially transformed global energy system by the end of the decade. That’s according to the International Energy Agency’s World Energy Outlook 2023. The outlook suggests that the remarkable growth of clean energy technologies, including solar, wind, electric vehicles, and heat pumps, is revolutionizing the way we power factories, homes, vehicles and heating systems.
In this fast-changing world, we at Schneider Electric have identified three major global trends, or megatrends, that are driving a surge in energy demand: urbanization, digitization and industrialization.
Along with the phenomenal increase in the need of clean energy technologies and commitments to the just energy transition, there is an ever-increasing requirement to further upskill our youth to meet the growing demands. The rapid advancements in IoT and Industry 4.0, driven by breakthroughs in mobility, robotics, cloud computing, sensing technologies, analytics, and cybersecurity, are transforming industries and creating an urgent need for highly skilled professionals. However, educational institutions may struggle to keep their curricula and practical training aligned with these fast-paced technological changes, resulting in technical graduates who may not be fully prepared to meet the demands of the contemporary job market in the energy industry.
To address this gap, Schneider Electric, under the umbrella of the Youth Impact Through Learning Program, has enhanced our academic initiatives to better align with industry needs and ensure that the workforce of tomorrow is equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge, through various programs, one being our Education Equipment Services offer.
Our didactic offer aligns with our corporate mission to be the trusted partner in Sustainability and Efficiency.
Total connectivity
Schneider Electric connects supply and demand. On the demand side, we integrate leading process and energy technologies to shape homes, buildings, data centres,
infrastructure, and industries of the future. On the supply side, we shape the grid of the future, while also working with training partners to ensure that future individuals and organizations are fully equipped to deliver optimal value.
While the ‘Energy Management’ element of Schneider Electric’s business speaks to electrification in a sustainable manner, the ‘Industrial Automation’ component is about digitization and efficiencies. Both, however, rely on Schneider Electric’s open IoT-enabled software platform – EcoStruxure.
The EcoStruxure platform is at the heart of our IoT system architecture and is key in our quest to provide energy and automation digital solutions. This plug-and-play platform allows for innovation at every level, in homes, buildings, data centres, infrastructure and industries. It essentially connects everything from the ground up, exchanging data, from sensors to the cloud, analysing data to discover meaningful insights and enabling individuals to act based on the advisories generated based on the real-time information and business logic.
As part of our Education Equipment Services, we have streamlined our intricate IoT system architecture by breaking it down into simplified, modular components, specifically designed to enhance training programs with the correct selection of the requisite solutions for various training modules. This approach allows learners to grasp the fundamental EcoStruxure concepts more effectively, while receiving practical exposure to solutions that are relevant in industry.
Partnering to transform education
Strategic partnerships between academic institutions and businesses are crucial to empower youth and bridge the gap between industry and academia. These collaborations offer students real-world experiences linking theory and practice, enhancing employability and driving innovation and growth.
At the core of the energy transition are the individuals who represent our future workforce, tasked with navigating a range of technologies. By preparing young people for future roles and encouraging them to envision what is achievable, we can not only impact their lives significantly but also enrich our communities both now and in the future.
Through our advanced training module design, expert advisory services, equipment design and competency management approach, we’re able to collaborate as a turnkey training partner, offering training and laboratory design.
Upskilling for the future
In training young minds in digital and automation technologies, our education solutions offer modules addresses the current skill gaps, while also preparing for future job demands. We’ve packaged our education offering into five main categories, namely, Smart Energy, Smart Building, Smart Factory, Digital Blocks and Fundamental Learning. Many of these are a pack with fixed equipment or software, support and services that we provide.
Under our Smart Energy offering the modules include, Electric Vehicle Charging, Solar Energy Solutions, LV Panel Installation, Smart Panels and Interactive City Grids.
The Smart Buildings offering has modules such as Building Installation, Building Automation & Applications and Integrated Building Management System.
Then, the Smart Factories modules speak about Industrial Installation, Controls & Drives and Automation, Automation Programming PLC & HMI and Sensors, Industrial Communication and SCADA, Robotics and Motion Control, Software Centric Automation, Production Line and Industry 4.0.
Digital Blocks promote digital technologies that are at the heart of modern industry and prepare young people in the areas of Extended Reality Development, IIOT Supervision Development and Operational Technology Cybersecurity.
Added to this vast offering are Fundamental Learning Modules which are geared towards providing practical learning for academic topics such as the basics of Earthing and Selectivity, Energy Quality and Energy Efficiency.
Schneider Electric’s training solutions, like the Education Equipment Services, are focused on delivering in-depth practical training that compliments both academia’s curricula as well as industry’s requirements, bridging the practical skills gap. The program includes solutions for initial learning, vocational training, higher education as well as engineering and professional training. A consultative approach is used when making recommendations to our partners or customers in education to ensure accurate selection of the educational solutions to meet the targeted learning outcomes.
