As I finished my bachelor’s degree in India, I made my way to Australia in 2022. I was eager to pursue higher education and find opportunities that aligned with my technical skills and career goals. Adapting to a new university as an international student came with its own set of challenges. But I worked hard during study sessions, collaborated on team projects, and built relationships with my professors to complete my degree and secure a spot in the Schneider Electric graduate program.
Securing the opportunity
Having completed my master’s degree in Electronics Engineering at Macquarie University, I found myself on an exciting quest for opportunities in my field. Among the various paths I pursued, the application process for Schneider Electric’s Graduate Program truly stood out. It was a challenging yet enjoyable experience, involving a logical assessment, a dynamic group presentation, and a personal one-on-one interview. Throughout this journey, I was deeply impressed by the company’s strong emphasis on sustainability and the vital role that the electrical and electronic fields play in driving the organization’s mission forward.
My First steps in Schneider Electric
I set sail on my voyage of discovery in my first rotation in February within the Pre-sales Services team as a Graduate Tender Engineer. I’ve had the opportunity to explore various aspects of Schneider Electric, gaining valuable insights into the diverse business units that make up the company. This journey has provided me with a deeper understanding of Schneider’s widespread operations. I’m looking forward to continuing this exciting learning journey and contributing positively to the team. I went through a thorough onboarding program that gave me a comprehensive look at different parts of the business. Additionally, I’ve made new connections and expanded my professional network through Coffee Connects.
Challenges and overcoming them
As an international student, diving into a new work environment and embracing a different culture while aiming for technical expertise came with its own set of challenges. But at Schneider Electric, the inclusive and friendly vibe made it easy for me to ask questions and seek help, boosting my confidence. With the support of my manager and colleagues, along with time to learn, I overcame hurdles. I made progress on my projects, despite the initial worries.
Being an international graduate engineer with Schneider Electric has been an incredibly fulfilling experience for me. The organization has provided an ideal launchpad for my engineering career, thanks to its nurturing environment. As well as the captivating challenges and growth opportunities it offers. I am eagerly anticipating the journey ahead, looking forward to further exploration, development, and learning alongside this dynamic and vibrant group.
