Both Schneider Electric and HKS, Inc. have had the great opportunity to work on project for a very green owner – the University of North Texas (UNT). UNT’s commitment to sustainability encourages seeking those initiatives that can help reduce the university’s carbon footprint.
Schneider Electric is completing a multi-year energy savings performance contract at UNT. University leaders have dubbed this campus program “SMART” (Save/Measure/Achieve/Reduce/Track). The scope includes chilled water loop piping, mechanical upgrades, lighting replacements, utility metering, and energy management system upgrades.
HKS, Inc. just completed overseeing the installation of three wind turbines adjacent to the new LEED Platinum certified Apogee Stadium. UNT received $2 million from Texas’ State Energy Conservation Office (SECO) for this wind power project. The turbines are expected to produce over 450,000 kWh annually, will be monitored by the university, and incorporated into future student and faculty research projects.
