Mindfulness at work: Creating space to thrive

How Schneider Electric employees are building a global community of focus, well-being, and connection.

In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to move from one meeting to the next, juggle competing priorities, and spend our days constantly connected. While technology helps us achieve more than ever before, many people are also looking for ways to feel more present, focused, and energized in both their professional and personal lives.

That’s where mindfulness comes in.

At Schneider Electric, we believe that creating a great workplace goes beyond providing opportunities for growth and development. It also means fostering an environment where people can take care of themselves, build resilience, and bring their best selves to work every day

One example of this commitment is our growing Mindfulness@Work Community: a global employee-led network that creates space for learning, practicing, and exploring mindfulness together.

What mindfulness really means

When people hear the word “mindfulness,” they often picture meditation, silence, or sitting cross-legged in a quiet room. But mindfulness is much broader than that.

At its core, mindfulness is the practice of paying attention to the present moment with intention and curiosity. It can be as simple as taking a few conscious breaths before an important presentation, fully listening during a conversation, taking a mindful walk, or creating moments of pause throughout a busy day.

And despite common misconceptions, mindfulness isn’t about emptying your mind, achieving perfection, or slowing down productivity. In fact, many people find the opposite.

Mindfulness helps them become more aware of their thoughts, emotions, habits, and surroundings, enabling them to navigate challenges with greater clarity and intention.

“Mindfulness@Work was designed to equip our teams with practical tools to navigate complexity, manage stress, and stay focused on what matters most. By fostering greater awareness and intentionality, mindfulness supports stronger collaboration, better decision-making, and a healthier, more productive workplace culture.”

David Gaytan, Global Procurement Services Leader and Mindfulness@Work Community Manager, Mexico

Care starts with self-awareness

At Schneider Electric, our Care culture recognizes that people perform at their best when they feel supported, valued, and empowered to thrive. Caring for others begins with caring for ourselves. That’s why we continue to invest in initiatives that support well-being, inclusion, and sustainable performance, helping employees build habits that strengthen their well-being. Mindfulness is one of the many tools available to support that journey.

By encouraging reflection, intentional pauses, and greater self-awareness, mindfulness can help individuals better understand what they need to stay energized, focused, and balanced in an increasingly complex world.

A community built by employees, for employees

What makes Mindfulness@Work especially powerful is that it is driven by employees and supported by a community of passionate volunteers across the globe.

Through virtual sessions, learning opportunities, awareness campaigns, and everyday conversations, employees come together to share experiences, learn from one another, and create meaningful connections beyond organizational and geographical boundaries.

The community reflects something we value deeply at Schneider Electric: creating spaces where people can be authentic, learn continuously, and support one another.

Hear it from our community:

“Mindfulness and meditation didn’t change my circumstances, but they changed how I responded to them. They helped me build resilience, manage stress, stay focused at work, and find calm during one of the most challenging times in my life.”

Denise Crowder, Trade Compliance & Customs Manager, Canada

“… my body felt less stressed or tensioned and I felt a lot more refreshed and positive on that workday where I joined the sessions. I highly recommend joining the sessions and will restart on that habit. Try it out, it worked well for me!”

Christian Stolte, Technical Product Specialist Ecostruxure IT,  DACH  , Germany

“It only takes 30 minutes to pause, breathe, and reconnect with yourself. For me, it helps clear my mind, improve my focus, and release the stress that naturally comes with a busy workday. I’ve realized that mindfulness isn’t only for when we feel stressed – it’s also about giving ourselves permission to pause and be present in our everyday lives.”

Karen Xy-za Rico, Pricing Analyst, Philippines

“When I came across the mindfulness practice sessions organized here at Schneider Electric, it really helped me to sustain & support what I had been doing on my own.  It was comforting to know this Mindfulness@Work community existed and connect with others that were seeking the same state of self-awareness and inner peace.”

Stephen Pagliarini , OLM Supply Chain – United States

“By using mindfulness techniques, I managed to overcome my fear of flying to such an extent that last year I was able to face the flight from Venice to New York with confidence (and visit that wonderful city).”

Valentina Valeri – Sales Assistant, Italy

“At work or in my personal life, mindfulness has really been helping me get a clearer picture of what matters, and how to better tackle challenges.”

Mélisande Pontvianne, Global thought leadership communications lead, France

As we celebrate Mindfulness Day, we’re proud of the employees who continue to make mindfulness part of our culture and grateful for the community that reminds us that sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is simply pause, pay attention, and reconnect with what matters most.
