How Schneider Electric’s innovation culture thrives in Serbia

At Schneider Electric, innovation is not confined to one location, team, or function. It lives wherever people are empowered to challenge the status quo, collaborate openly, and turn ideas into meaningful impact. In Serbia, this global culture comes to life through a deeply connected community of experts who shape digital solutions used around the world.
From Belgrade to Novi Sad, our teams play a vital role in advancing Schneider Electric’s digital and sustainability ambitions. Together, they contribute to a culture where technical excellence, curiosity, and purpose go hand in hand.

Building global impact from Serbia

Schneider Electric in Serbia brings together complementary strengths across customer-facing teams and global digital and software expertise. The Front Office in Belgrade focuses on customer engagement, partnerships, and market development. While the Schneider Electric Hub in Novi Sad stands as a cornerstone of our global digital organisation.

Following Schneider Electric’s largest software acquisition in 2019, the Novi Sad Hub has grown into a strategic centre for developing mission-critical software that supports electrical distribution grids worldwide. Teams here work on advanced digital solutions that help utilities monitor, plan, and operate power networks more efficiently, reliably, and sustainably, supporting operations in more than 100 control centres globally.

In parallel, the Research and Engineering Center further strengthens Serbia’s position within Schneider Electric’s innovation ecosystem. From digital grid platforms to EV and home energy solutions, teams in Serbia transform complex technical challenges into scalable, real-world applications that support customers and communities across the globe.

Today, more than 1,000 professionals work at the Novi Sad Hub, with 92% highly educated experts bringing together strong academic foundations and deep industry expertise. Serbia is not only a delivery centre, but also a place where globally relevant digital solutions are imagined, built, and continuously improved.

A culture where expertise is recognised

This environment of trust and technical excellence created the foundation for the growth of the Electrifier program in Serbia.

The Electrifier program is a global Schneider Electric initiative designed to recognise employees who push boundaries, turn ideas into impact, and actively shape the future of the company. Electrifiers are experts who combine deep technical mastery with the ability to influence, collaborate, and drive meaningful change across teams and borders.

Serbia’s Electrifier (formerly Edison) journey began in 2019 and quickly became one of our strongest local success stories. In 2020, Branislav Brbaklic became Serbia’s first Electrifier. His journey, and continued progression to Senior Electrifier level, inspired many colleagues to explore their own potential and take ownership of their development.

Innovation as a shared mindset

In Serbia, teams treat innovation as a core part of how they work. Leaders actively support their people, and teams create value every day through this approach. Within our software organisation, teams trust expertise, encourage ideas, and commit to continuous learning.

This mindset also drives broader recognition of Schneider Electric’s digital leadership. In 2025, Guidehouse Research recognised Schneider Electric as a Leader in its Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS) Leaderboard. This recognition reinforces the strength of our long-term vision and the people behind the technology.

Within this global context, the Electrifier program in Serbia has become a platform that supports career growth. It increases visibility of technical expertise and connects local innovation to global impact.

Bringing the community to life

To keep the Electrifier community open, visible, and inspiring, teams in Serbia actively nurture it through several initiatives.

  • Sharing stories and recognition
    • Success stories and achievements are regularly shared across internal channels. This helps employees understand the value of technical expertise and how the Electrifier journey can support their growth.
  • Electrifier Café
    • Several times a year, informal Electrifier Café sessions bring people together to share personal journeys, lessons learned, and practical insights. These conversations help demystify the program and create a welcoming space for curiosity and connection.
  • The Electrifier Wall
    • Introduced in 2025, the Electrifier Wall serves as a visible tribute to colleagues whose expertise contributes to global impact and innovation.

Electrifiers in action

Electrifiers in Serbia also play an active role in shaping broader innovation moments across Schneider Electric. During the annual One Digital Grid Hackathon, a global event that brings together top technical talent, Electrifiers are often among the first to participate.

Their involvement helps accelerate the development of future-ready ideas, strengthens collaboration across borders, and highlights the impact of Serbia’s technical community within the wider organisation.

Growing together

Today, Serbia is home to 24 Level 1 Electrifiers, and 3 Level 2 Electrifiers, and the community continues to grow.

Recent Electrifier Nemanja Simic describes the journey as a moment of reflection and growth:

“For me, the Electrifier certifications are more than a title. They offer a structured way to reflect on my journey and sharpen the skills that define real technology leadership. Through the process, I gained a deeper understanding of how technical ideas turn into real business value.

Inspired by everyday challenges, Nemanja initiated an automation solution to reduce manual effort and improve troubleshooting consistency, demonstrating how small, focused innovations can improve both quality and efficiency.

“If you have an idea, don’t wait for the perfect moment. Talk to peers, learn from others, and stay open to acting on what you observe.”

A message from the Electrifier Program Leader, Olivier Bouffet

“Serbia, and in particular our Digital Grid team in Novi Sad, stands out as a center of excellence for software engineering at Schneider Electric. The level of mastery, ownership, and ambition I see here is remarkable. This is where mission‑critical, globally deployed Digital Grid software is built with rigor, passion, and impact.

Visiting and engaging with the Electrifier community in Serbia leaves a lasting impression.
What strikes first is not only the depth of technical expertise, but the energy, ambition, and collective mindset of this community. In Serbia, Electrifiers are not a small group on the side – they are at the heart of innovation, fully connected to the business, to leadership, and to the future of Schneider Electric.

Serbia has become a success case because it understood something essential very early on: expertise flourishes when it is recognized, connected, and given the right stage.

Here, the Electrifier program is not perceived as a label or a title. It is lived as a journey: a journey of continuous learning, a journey of influence, and a journey where experts feel empowered to challenge, propose, and lead.

From the first Electrifier to today’s growing community, Serbia has built a virtuous cycle: role models inspire others, innovation feeds recognition, and recognition fuels even greater impact. Initiatives like the Electrifier Café, the Electrifier Wall, and the strong presence of Electrifiers in major moments such as the One Digital Grid Hackathon are not symbolic – they are structural. They create visibility, confidence, and momentum.

What makes Serbia truly stand out is the alignment between experts, managers, and leadership. Electrifiers are trusted. Their time is valued. Their ideas are heard. And when this happens, innovation accelerates naturally.

This is exactly what the Electrifier program was designed to achieve globally – and Serbia demonstrates, every day, that it works. Serbia is not just participating in the Electrifier program. Serbia is shaping it. And this is why the Serbian Electrifier community is not only a local success, but a reference for the entire global Electrifier network”.

A global culture, lived locally

The Electrifier story in Serbia reflects something bigger than one program or one location. It is about a culture where expertise is recognised, curiosity is encouraged, and innovation is a shared responsibility.

From the Novi Sad Hub, Serbian teams contribute daily. To products and platforms that support customers worldwide, enable sustainability, and drive digital transformation across energy systems.

What makes this story especially powerful is not just the number of Electrifiers, but the environment around them. When people are trusted, connected, and supported, their impact extends far beyond local borders.

In Serbia, that impact is unmistakably global.
