Why I chose Schneider Electric: A take from a Services Representative

When it comes to choosing the right employer, every detail matters, from career growth to company culture to benefits. We caught up with Kaylob Shields, a Services Representative who joined us in July 2023, to hear why he chose Schneider Electric over other employers, and why he’s still glad he did.

Why I chose Schneider Electric - how Schneider Electric stacks up

Meet Kaylob: From law enforcement to leading tech

A former law enforcement officer in the military, Kaylob made a big leap into the world of data center infrastructure with a little help from a friend.

A friend was working at Schneider Electric and referred me. He really supported me in the early days, mentoring me until I was ready to lead a site independently.

Today, Kaylob is the lead Services Representative at a multinational data center company, managing crews and overseeing the commissioning of complex electrical systems like switchgear and transformers.

Why Schneider Electric stood out

1. Compensation that you deserve

We know that competitive pay matters. That’s why we gave Kaylob an offer that exceeded his expectations. That kind of immediate recognition is hard to ignore when weighing your options.

I was making twice what I made in my previous role, and that was a huge draw for me.

2. Real, tangible benefits

According to Kaylob, most other companies don’t offer what we do. Things like a company vehicle, paid travel time, comprehensive health care, and development are all essential to his career satisfaction. Our perks are designed to support both professional and personal well-being.

Having the flexibility to balance work and home life is really important to me. I wanted a job that’d let me spend real time with my family.”

3. No-fuss approach

Kaylob’s hiring process moved fast—really fast.

I interviewed with the manager and had an offer the next day. A week later, I was doing my training.

For those seeking a quick, no-fuss entry into a new role, Schneider Electric’s hiring pace is a major plus. But you won’t be thrown in the deep end; you’ll start with a robust program that blends setup with field-ready training.

4. No two days are the same

What keeps Kaylob coming back each day?

I never know what I’m going to be doing. I work on relays, switchgear, transformers—it’s always something different.

If you thrive on variety and enjoy getting hands-on with the latest in electrical systems, this role offers plenty of opportunity to stay engaged and challenged.

5. A culture of support

Even the interview process reflected Schneider Electric’s emphasis on a welcoming, supportive environment.

It was formal but informal, if that makes sense. Just a real conversation. They made it feel like, ‘We’ll help you get where you need to be.’”

That people-first mindset carries through to the job itself. Kaylob appreciates that there’s always people in his corner to help him out when he needs it.

Ready to make your move?

For Kaylob, choosing Schneider Electric was a no-brainer. The benefits were unmatched, the culture felt right, and the opportunity for growth was real. If you’re considering your next move, take it from someone on the inside: Schneider Electric stacks up.
