Next-level resilience: PowerChute™ boosts virtual workload prioritization and cybersecurity

Protection against unplanned power events should be part of a business continuity and resilience strategy for all critical IT workloads. PowerChute™ Network Shutdown plays a key role by connecting your power infrastructure into the IT layer enabling unattended, graceful shutdown of your IT infrastructure during unexpected power events.

At the core of maximizing resiliency is the workload prioritization in virtualized environments hosting Virtual Machines (VMs). Prioritization is crucial for optimizing resource allocation, ensuring critical applications function for as long as possible especially during power events helping with IT infrastructure stability and efficiency.

VM prioritization in Hyper-V environment

Microsoft Hyper-V remains a popular virtualization choice and when speaking to these customers, we learned that VM prioritization is just as important in Hyper-V as it is for VMware. As a result, I’m delighted to announce that our recently released PowerChute™ Network Shutdown v5.2 now supports VM prioritization in Hyper-V environments, which helps prioritize and sequence the shutdown, migration, and startup of Hyper-V VMs. I am sure this will be very popular news for our Hyper-V customers.

Simplified troubleshooting makes our customer’s lives easier

Complex virtualized environments require detailed operational logs readily available for IT administrators. PowerChute™ provides detailed logs that can assist in troubleshooting. However, in the latest v5.2 release, the PowerChute™ event logs would be accessible from operating system event log for a single pane view across applications. In addition, all PowerChute™ logs can be combined into a single zip file available for download with a single click, which makes it easier to package and share the full log suite with your IT Partner or the Schneider Electric support team during troubleshooting.

We remain focused on leading the industry with cybersecurity

CIOs worldwide continue to rank cybersecurity as their top priority in 2025. Center for Internet Security (CIS) benchmarks are best practices for secure configuration of a target system. CIS benchmark level 2 profile is considered as “defense in depth”, thereby aiming to strengthen security across multiple layers. PowerChute™ Network Shutdown v5.2 has achieved CIS Benchmark Profile 2 compliance delivering enhanced security and reduced attack surface and increasing peace of mind for IT administrators.
