The first Critical Facilities Summit takes place at the Charlotte Convention Center in North Carolina, October 21-23, and focuses on managing the infrastructure of data centers and mission critical facilities. In the wake of last year’s Hurricane Sandy and continuing wild weather across the nation that test the mettle of mission critical, this inaugural event kicks off with a panel discussion on responding to natural disasters and other catastrophic events. “Emergency Preparedness for Critical Facilities: What You Need to Know” will cover site selection, resilience and redundancy, enhanced business continuity planning, the role of government standards in critical facility site selection, and creating and testing contingency plans specific to mission critical. Panel speakers include Terry Gillick of Primary Integrated Solutions, Sean Ahrens of Aon Global Risk Consulting , Timothy Lisle of Jacobs Wyper, and Edward Sullivan of Building Operating Management.

The Critical Facilities Summit, a new educational conference for facilities professionals, consulting engineers, and design firms responsible for building and operating data centers and mission critical facilities, will offer a product expo along with 25 conference sessions presented by leaders in design, operation, and management of mission critical facilities. Sessions are organized under four major topics:
• Designing and Building Mission Critical
• Operations and Maintenance Strategies
• High-Efficiency Initiatives and Opportunities
• Best Practices in the Critical Facilities World.

The last day’s general session, titled “Data Center Design: Lessons from Experience, Plans for the Future,” is geared toward facilities and engineering professionals who want to learn how innovation plays a key role in meeting design challenges. In this session a panel of experienced facility professionals share their stories of what worked and what didn’t. Panelists include Brian Ortiz of Internap and Brandon Keesee of CBRE.
